Sounds&Visions
Sounds&Visions is a collaborative work of words and images by poet José M. Tirado and Cynthia Vickers. It is meant to be experienced in this way:
Visually experience the image. Let your eyes wander through it, lingering here and there.
Read the accompanying quatrain silently. Then read it again…aloud.
Now savor the combination of word and image. Reflect and enjoy.
about this project
I’ve learned over the past few years to keep an open mind and an open eye as I go about my daily tasks. For me, making an image is about being present in the everyday, rather than forcing situations in order to capture an extraordinary image.
After all, the world is already extraordinary. In fact, several of the subjects for this project were found on alley walks with my cat Oliver. But they became extraordinary in the context of light and gesture. To me, leaving room for discovery and surprise is essential to making evocative images.
When poet José M. Tirado showed me a few lines he’d written in response to a photo I’d shared, I marveled at the way an image can inspire a creative response.
These lines of poetry are now as much a part of the image as is its color or light. The collaboration with José for Sounds&Visions helped me see that there are visual stories that inspire beyond the image.
